Welcome to Gravis Island! (3700km Map)

As featured in the Official Rust Community Blog and, as well as hosted on many official Rust servers we hope to bring a new experience to Rust players with Gravis Island

Gravis Island was developed with the intention of creating a familiar Rust experience while expanding on the idea of focusing on in-game items that are currently underutilized. Everything that has been placed on this map was hand-done by four veterans in the Rust Map Making scene. This experience was more than just making something fun for players, but a great team-building experience where we got to know each other more and shared some great laughs along the way.

The map we made has some small additions to monuments we feel could help increase foot traffic, while also giving more reasons to explore more of the map. We implemented a network of mountain tunnels to allow the players to traverse the landscape in an easier way, with small wooden bridges, military checkpoints, and more. To prepare for the future submarine update, we instituted ocean-based monuments players could visit on their explorations out at sea.

Just adding new content wasn’t our only focus, user playability, performance, and progression was a key component in our initial planning stages. We conceptualized many mockups of different styles of maps until our team felt we had something that was balanced. Our progression begins on the southwest of the map and cascades to the northeast. As a player moves from one side to the other, they will be met with better tier monuments and more difficult challenges along the way. The map also features a handful of various islands that players can travel to if they prefer the more secluded lifestyle.

Every aspect of this map was handcrafted from beginning to end. We are very proud of what we accomplished in the two weeks we worked on this together and had a wonderful time making it.

Information and Specifics

Our wonderful friend and well-known idle in the Rust community has done an excellent walkthrough of the map showing you pretty much every key point! Be sure to check it out HERE!

Additionally, you can view more information from’s interactive interface to view more such as resource spawns, players spawn points, etc!

This map CAN be ran under the community tab (vanilla) however you still need to have oxide installed in order for the plugin for the map to fully load. Here is a picture of how you can make your server vanilla even with oxide installed.

    Beautiful map!
We’ll be running this on Doki 2X, 100X and 1000X over at

Quick question, can this map be used with the vanilla server? Without extensions and addons. I am running a vanilla server

    (Author response)
Yes, however you still need oxide installed so the included plugin can be loaded. But you can set “Modded” to false within your oxide config so you can still be 100% alright on the community tab 🙂

We will use this map on our server RustSpain Vanilla Medium. That from today will become official with our Vanilla Main server.

One of the best Rust maps I’ve ever played on. Going to be running it on my solo server, now! Jeremy’s Vanilla Solo. Thanks to the creators for this polished, balanced and beautiful map!

  7. Electrik (verified owner)

One of the very few maps where I don’t have any changes or fix to do before launching it on my server, it’s precise, detailed, very well balanced, the quality of this map is clearly worth the price, don’t hesitate a second !

    Well done guys !

So worth its’ price. The level of polish is amazing. Usually I have to patch holes in maps I buy, not with this one. Amazing job, it deserves the recognition it got and then some.

How big is the map?

22 days 7 hours ago

Hey! It’s a 3700 size map 🙂

22 days 2 hours ago

wow 99$ its to high xD but i like!

22 days 42 minutes ago

How long do you anticipate keeping the map up to date?

21 days 19 hours ago

As long as we possibly can depending on how long Rust survives 🙂

22 days 4 minutes ago

come on the price is crazy at $100
I expected it to be $29.99 or something similar.Adding a premuim price will just make all map makers charge more in the future.

that is exactly what he’s doing and I think he feels to realize we’ll just go somewhere else

21 days 17 hours ago

I thought FP was going to release this as an official map that could be run on any sever… $100 is too high.

21 days 10 hours ago

25 buck per mapper. ~2 years experience each. We’re not asking you to purchase if you don’t want to or cannot justify it. Just publishing at a price we agreed upon as a team so we can further maintain the map with future updates and possibly allow us to make more maps as a team

21 days 14 hours ago

I really love this map…

but I don’t love it enough to pay $100

plain and simple highway robbery

20 days 13 hours ago

Why are the cheapest skin flints always the biggest complainers? $100 is more than fair for the amount of work that went into this. Will be buying it and running it on my server for sure.

100$….Lol way to high. Will not even look into this map till its dropped to something below 50$

19 days 16 hours ago

Not forcing anyone to buy it. If you don’t want to, that’s totally fine 🙂

19 days 17 hours ago

My reply was deleted.. Like other users.. $100 is way to much. Once the price is dropped to a reasonable amount $40-60 then we will look at this map. Taking advantage of people

Not forcing anyone to buy it. If you don’t want to, that’s totally fine 🙂 Previous message could have been auto removed from our bot/hate/racism/politics detection system in place.

4 people, fulltime work, totally custom and optimized with balance in mind. Take into account all the hours that went into this, and apply even minimum wage, you’d get to an investment of thousands. You should count your lucky stars you’re able to get this level of polish for $100.

It would be taking advantage of people if the map didn’t function, or if it wasn’t tested at all. But it does, and was featured as a Facepunch official server map so tested by literal thousands of players. This is premium craftsmanship worth a premium price. People constantly repeating that $100 is too much, I get why comments are deleted. It serves no purpose whatsoever, except to tell the world you’re unable to recognize quality. They’re not forcing you to buy the map, let it go.

so with licelogic AAA companies should charge more than $1,000 per game

19 days 3 hours ago

AAA studios create games to be sold to literal millions. This map is going to be bought by a few dozen, if that. Your comparison makes no sense.

Look, this map isn’t for everyone, and its clearly not for you, so why bother with this? Just move on, live your life. Let other people have things.

hello im intrested in getting this for my server but want to know do i need to add other stuff to my server like the rustedit.dll or what ever it is as that has stopped me from getting other maps just because im not sure on how it works

7 days 21 hours ago

Hey! All requirements for this map is included which is just 1 single plugin. This map does not require the rustedit dll.

You will however need the latest build of oxide when running this, but you can still remain a vanilla server if you edit your oxide.config from Modded ‘true’, to Modded ‘False’ to remain in the community section. 🙂

FYI – the ice by Water treatment (F6? or something) has a deep riverbed which some mods are spawning NPCs under.

I noticed other ice ponds are shallow under (near sewer branch? im using the small preview picture lol).

If you have a lonely weekend it might be worth raising the riverbed, but obviously not urgent.

I was reluctant to drop a ton on this, but I’m gald I did. It’s pretty schmick. Quick questions – can hoses not go through tunnels?

7 days 21 hours ago

Thank you for the kind words <3

And that's correct, unfortunately, horses are the only things that cannot pass through. Facepunch is aware but not high on their list as it's pretty much only pertains to this map and possibly hapis. All other vehicles do pass through though

You need to upload the plugin to your plugins folder to make the map work, the map won’t function if you don’t and will prevent your server from starting.

Luis Hernandez

I do have the plugin loaded in my plugins folder.

How do I host this .zip/.7z file I just purchased on my server?

• First, you want to unzip the file. You can do so by just double-clicking it to open, then drag the contents to the desired location (you may need to install an external unzipping software if you don’t already have one)
• Next you will find either a structure of folders or just the .map file itself (it’s the important one).
• Once the .map is uploaded to dropbox simply copy the share link attached to it.
• You will first start off by uploading the .map file to an online hosting provider, I’ll include dropbox since it’s easy to get started with.
• Once you’ve copied the link paste it into your server’s startup .bat (batch) file. (You can leave the worldsize/seed. Custom maps override proc gen parameters)
• Example “levelurl “https:// www dropbox dot com/s/sdfagbragae/”
• Make SURE the dl=0 at the end is changed to dl=1 otherwise players won’t be able to join!
• Now just start your server and it’ll boot right up! Below I’ll attach a video that goes more in-depth on hosting custom maps vs proc gen maps since it’s a tad different

Additionally, here’s a great video that easily covers hosting a custom map for the first time if you need it!

• Installation is not included with any products on the site, however, if needed we may assist if you reach out to our support.
• If the product contains a plugin file (.cs) it’s advised to have it installed prior to booting your server with the map you purchased
